"I made some recordings with the Goliath, and wow, sounds really great!
Serious piece of equipment with big sound. I like the EQ very much for my passive basses.
In fact, I prefer to use my active basses in passive mode now because they sound much better with the Goliath EQ.
This will be my standard DI/preamp for every recording from now!
I will recommend it to other bass players for sure."

“ The Gnome (Light) is what I’ve been looking for, for many years. Tube sound in a very small package. When I first plugged it in with both of my Jazz Basses and my Double Bass, I was in love immediately. Just WOW, man...They all sound so incredibly warm and smooth but still has a nice ‘bite’; especially the piezo pickup from the double bass sounds really authentic through the Gnome, almost as if I had a high end microphone instead of a piezo pickup. Even just recording el. guitar at home sounds fantastic though the Gnome. The Gnome is now a permanent companion for rehearsals, gigs and studio and you’ll have to 'pry it from my cold, dead hands’, as they say.. I’m so happy and pleased with this tube-preDI, and Roland has made a true Masterpiece. Out of 5 stars,
I’ll give this a solid 10 stars. Excellent! “

The Goliath is excellent and I don't want to miss it anymore.
The workmanship is impressive and the external appearance already suggests that it's something special!
For me it's sound improvement at the highest level without changing the sound of the instrument.
I particularly like the slight compression!
The Goliath is indispensable for recording directly in the DAW.
On vacation I had the Goliath with me and with the headphone output I was able to practice very well!
Thank you for this pretty wonder box ;-)

Finally, after a long journey through all kinds of preamps I found my solution: the Gnome DI box! Real high-quality parts, extrem clarity and the warmth of a tube in combination with the Lehle basswich IQ DI builds, the perfect sound for me.

Thanks Roland!

"The Goliath Tube Emphasizer DI is a great tool for playing live and also a great little helper in studio situations. It adds an extra freshness to the sound and helps to create a very warm, tranparent and very musical sound that will surely inspire you playing your instrument. Absolutely recommended!"

The Goliath preamp makes my traditional passive basses sound good and sit in the mix regardless of amp I use. Mostly I use Class D amps for portability, and the Goliath makes them come alive in that old school way. Also when I go only DI it feels like I play through an amp. My fretless gets a nice growl with the Goliath too.
As I noticed so far, the Goliath handles effect pedals in a nice manner. I had preferred that all inputs and outputs were placed on one side of the unit just to make pedal board placement easier; now the DI is on the left side but all other connections on the "north" side. But - you can't have it all... All in all a very nice and well sounding preamp with an old school virtual design.
I like it! //Roger Hedin - freelance bassist, Sweden

Well, I just leave the Goliath switched on all the time. Once it is switched on, you just leave it that way. The difference is so clearly audible, that you don't want to play without it any more. The sound is just more fresh and crisp, like you had drawn a curtain. The sound becomes more round, well-balanced and has more brilliance.
Meanwhile I leave the tone controls mostly in a neutral position, even though you'd have infinite possibilities with it. The controls really are perfect if you play as many different basses as I do. Just ideal for this certain vernier adjustment. You really don't have to manipulate the knobs a lot to directly hear a difference. The gadget is going to be very interesting in the studio, I'm already exited to try it there.

Thank you for this great gear!

I had been in search of a good tube preamp for quite some time and ran into the Goliath by accident. After a short testing during a production (with Udo Lindenberg) in the studio all doubts were eliminated. The Goliath wins you over with its unbelievably warm sound and an unparalleled presence, without deforming the individual sound of my bass. It rather cultivates the sound as such and gives it additional charm.
By means of the integrated EQ you can conjure any sound as desired.
I'm happy not to be searching any more.

"My first choice to reach more dynamic. This box will append high range of harmonics, as well as a very smooth compression. A really caressing tube sound without any disturbance of tone and clarity. No matter if I use the GOLIATH on stage with my amp, plug it directly in to the PA or in recording situations, I will get an upper class tone, every time. My first intend was to enhance the aseptic Hifi- trans- tone of my GLOCKENKLANG amp. Nowadays my sound is even more lively." H v HonK

The Goliath Emphasizer "DI" arrived after just a few days packaged in exemplary fashion. The gears' case is very robust and seems indestructable. You'll have to spend some time on the passive curcuit. But since I used to play many tube amps like Ampeg SVT I+II, MesaBoogie400, Palmer or Peavey 400 + Alpha, it was not very difficult to find "my" sound. Revealingly I activated the "Sensitive switch" and the
"Deep switch" and turned up the "bass" switch all the way. Treble is set to "2" and middle to "3". Maybe that's quite an extreme adjustment, but I remember to have proceded in a similar way with my old tube amps. The Tube sound is dreamlike. Extremely transparent, creamy and a little crunchy. For people really wantig distortion, this gear is not suited. For a clean tube sound as a floor pedal it's a
top choice. I also found interesting to mix one tube channel and a second clean one
(using the John East Stomp Box) in recording. This was the perfect recording setup for me. The Lehle DI does full justice to its reputation. So I can fully agree to the comments in professional journals: The WR Goliath DI has a stiff price tag, you have to dig into the passive curcuit, but you'll find the desired tube sound of your dreams, and the deal turns out to be a good one.

Finally I had the opportunity to test the Goliath. In short: Absolutely great!
I've used it for our album recordings and I'm very satisfied with the sound result.
Essentially exactly what I had in mind to enrich my bass sound. The Goliath will also be a permanent feature of my pedalboard. I don't want to play a gig in the future without it.
Thank you, Roland!

Fantastic device, highly recommendable!"

'I almost never use an amplifier and go straight into FOH via a preamp/DI.
The tube in the Goliath enlivens the signal without overloading it. I also like to switch between different devices, depending on the instrument I am playing,
to shape a particular tone & I am very fond of the Goliath with a double bass.'

This Goliath Tube Preamp brings really a beautiful clear and warm sound out of the box. I’v played now several Gig’s with it and i still have it always with me and active.
Sometimes I think I don’t need it but if that thing is not active on my board,
I miss the sound immediately. I am very happy with it.

The "WR Tube Bass Emphasizer DI" enriches the sound with the typical tube-warmth and gives a nice final punch to my bass sound, without transforming the core of it.
The Di comes in handy playing at venues with pa's, as in ear monitoring or using it as an additional recording track in studios I've been using it for quite a few months now and I won't definitely play without it anymore. Every bass player should have this unit on his pedal board

Sound wise I was truly impressed by the Goliath. The slight coloration of the sound is fantastic (gives a sparkle to every note), the EQ is really musical and gave me more presence. It's hard to get a bad sound out of it. I tried it with a Jazz Bass with flat wound strings and at last I could dial in that tubey slightly compressed sound I love and have heard in many classic albums. Overall it's a great piece of gear and the sound is exquisite. I've added it to my pedal board and it's going to be my main pre-amp. I've used the Goliath live yesterday night. The sound was really excellent and the sound engineer was pleased with the clarity of DI. Plenty of volume too in order to make the amplifier work properly.
I'm really pleased with the Goliath. Well done Roland!“

I'm using your wonderfull Goliath Tube Bass Preamp for about two months now. When it first arrived at home, I plugged it before my Ashdown Little Bastard, thinking it wouldn't do much because the LB30 is allready an all tube amp... But no, it really made a difference! The Goliath made the sound a bit more gritty and compressed.
This way I can drive the Little Bastard faster into saturation (30 full tube Watt is quite alot at home and the LB30 only has a master volume, no gain!). It also provides some extra toneshaping. After that, I used it with my TC Electronic RH750. It had the same effect but much more obvious: fuller, harmonically richer tone which made the TC sound much more natural, less 'sterile' (but that isn't the exact word to describe it). Actually, that was the reason why I bought the Goliath. But we had to change our rehaersal room. The studio where we used to rehearse was sold and we had to move to another, acoustically less perfect place in which the Class D poweramp sonically drowned. In came the Ashdown ABM 500 Evo III that I still had as a backup.
I bought a set of Toneman 4x10's and we could hear (and feel) the bass again :-). Now the Goliath gives me 3 sound variations: clean (Ashdown solid state preamp, Goliath bypassed), 'tubey clean' (Goliath on) and overdrive (Goliath + internal tube preamp of the Ashdown with lots of gain). The natural compression of the Goliath is also great in this setup. Now I don't have to use the onboard compressor of the Ashdown anymore,
which is pretty useless due to its enormous volume-drop...
Thank you for this great little pedal! Cheers! Tom

The Goliath Bass Tube Emphasizer DI is a great device which, due to its unique design using an ECC86 tube, hardly compares to any other stomp box or tube preamp. It provides a slight compression and adds nice harmonics to the signal while it always preserves its original character. When using it with solid state amps or directly recording the symmetric DI output, it gives you an extra tube warmth. Furthermore, it freshens up signals with little harmonics. Thereby, the effect always remains subtle, but once one figured out how it works, one will clearly notice the difference when switching it into bypass mode.
I am very happy that this little box found its way into my gear park.

"After a long test phase with diverse basses and amplification systems I can tell you now, that I am more than satisfied with the Goliath Emphasizer "DI". I have the impression that it has given a sort of rejuvenating cure to all the other pedals.
Everything, the pure bass signal, but also the amplifier and all effect units sound significantly better with the Goliath. It's plugged in to the line of units right after tuner and wah-wah pedal. It's always switched on! This investment has more than paid off!! I can't say when or if ever I have been as satisfied with a piece of bass equipment I bought, as now with the Goliath. This pedal is worth every penny!"
